Tijuana Cure
by Layne Coleman
March 10-28, 2009. Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace.
Starring Ieva Lucs | Directed by Ashlie Corcoran
Theatre Smash, with the generous support of Theatre Passe Muraille, presented Layne Coleman’s true story about love, sex and cancer. Tijuana Cure starred Ieva Lucs and was directed by Ashlie Corcoran.
With options diminishing, a husband accompanies his ailing wife to a Mexican hospital. Cancer is their enemy; their hope, a diet of organic food. Layne Coleman spins an irreverent tale of mid-life crisis, percocet and marijuana, youthful desire and prairie bike rides. Most importantly, he speaks of the hope found in love.
“Tijuana Cure is an extremely moving and unique dramatic monologue. I experienced the rare sensation of entering uncharted emotional territory, and was grateful to the sensitive harnessing of script, direction and performance.”
- Atom Egoyan, Filmmaker
